We do not ask you to create an account, we do not sell data, and the only information you actively give us is whatever you type into the contact form. Two third parties do see something: Google Analytics, which measures traffic, and Amazon, which sets a cookie when you follow a product link.
What you give us directly
Only the contact form. It collects your name, your email address, the topic you select, and your message. We use them to reply to you and for nothing else — no mailing list, no marketing, no sharing with anyone. Messages are delivered to our own inbox by Microsoft's email service and kept only as long as the conversation is useful.
The form also records the moment the page loaded and briefly counts submissions per network address. That is anti-spam machinery, not analytics: automated submissions arrive within milliseconds and humans do not. Neither value is stored beyond the request.
What is collected automatically
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages get read and which searches bring people here. It records things like the pages you visit, roughly where in the world you are, the type of device and browser, and how you arrived. It is configured to record aggregate behavior rather than to identify you, and we never attempt to connect analytics data to a person.
We do record one custom event: when a product link is clicked, we log that a click happened, which merchant it went to and which page it came from. This is how we can tell which guides are actually useful. It contains nothing about you.
Google is the data controller for what it collects. Their privacy policy explains it, and Google's own opt-out browser add-on will stop it entirely. Standard browser tracking protection and most ad blockers also block it, and the site works identically either way.
Amazon affiliate cookies
When you follow a product link, Amazon sets a cookie so that if you buy something they can attribute the sale to us. That cookie is set by Amazon on Amazon's domain, governed by Amazon's privacy notice, and we cannot read it. We learn only whether a sale occurred, never who made it — Amazon reports totals, not customers.
Hosting logs
The site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard server logs (network address, request time, page requested) for operational and security purposes. See Vercel's privacy policy.
What we do not do
- No accounts, logins or profiles. There is nothing to sign up for.
- No newsletter and no marketing email. We do not have a mailing list.
- No selling or renting of data. Not to anyone, at any price.
- No advertising network, retargeting or ad pixels. No Meta pixel, no ad tracker of any kind. The only commercial relationship is the Amazon affiliate link.
- No fingerprinting and no attempt to identify you across sites.
Your choices
- Block analytics with your browser's tracking protection, an ad blocker, or Google's opt-out add-on. The site is fully functional without it.
- Clear or block cookies in your browser settings. Blocking Amazon's affiliate cookie changes nothing about what you pay or what you can read here; it just means a purchase is not attributed to us.
- Ask us to delete your contact message. Email us and we will remove it from the inbox.
- Ask what we hold about you. If you have written to us, it is your message and your email address, and we will confirm or delete it on request.
Children
This site is written for adults setting up an aquarium and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If a child has sent us a message through the contact form, email us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of the page changes with it. There is no mailing list to notify, which is itself the point.
